BRONCO WILD FUND SUPPORTS

Climbing and Community with Maiza Lima

MARCH 31ST - APRIL 2ND, 2023 | SMITH ROCK STATE PARK, OR

Inspired by the epic return of the legendary Ford Bronco brand, Bronco Wild Fund is a mission with a deep respect for our public lands – and an unbridled commitment to helping those lands continue to be a world of wonder for all.

This Women's History Month, Bronco Wild Fund supports She Moves Mountains guide and Team Bronco Alumni Maiza Lima to bring together a weekend of community and climbing. Over the weekend we will teach safe climbing practices, leave no trace principles,  how to take up space, how to show strength through vulnerability, and the power of connection in the outdoors.

People won't protect what they don't love so it is our hope that through building community we can help more people fall in love with the great outdoors.

Thanks to Bronco Wild Fund we will be offering this weekend of climbing and community on a Pay What You Can Basis.

The Details

CLIMBING AT SMITH ROCK STATE PARK

Guided climbing and instruction will be available for climbers of varying skill levels, from first-time beginners to intermediate and advanced climbers. Our guides are trained through either the AMGA and are experts at finding the right climbs for you whether you are brand new to rock climbing or an expert climber. We will do our best over the weekend to make sure that everyone is met with the appropriate challenge but the weekend is focused on facilitating joy over sends.

CAMPING AT SMITH ROCK STATE PARK

For this event we will be camping near Smith Rock State Park. The exact location has not been decided just yet!

ABOUT MAIZA

Maiza grew up in the Brazilian Amazon before coming to the US as a teenager, and since finding climbing she’s charged quickly through the grades and onto the cover of Climbing magazine. When she’s not busy crushing routes, she’s often hard at work developing new ones near her home in Montana.

ABOUT BRONCO WILD FUND

Inspired by the epic return of the legendary Ford Bronco brand, Bronco Wild Fund is a mission with a deep respect for our public lands – and an unbridled commitment to helping those lands continue to be a world of wonder for all.

Toward that purpose, Bronco Wild Fund is teaming up with like-minded collaborators: agencies, organizations and everyday heroes devoted to keeping the great outdoors great. In fact, a portion of the profits from every Bronco sold goes directly to Bronco Wild Fund collaborator initiatives. Because it’s about more than just building Bronco SUVs. It’s about building a legacy of access, preservation and stewardship from the ground up.

She Moves Mountains is grateful to be a recipient of one of these grants. Learn more about Bronco Wild Fund HERE

PAYMENT INFORMATION

Cost: $450 or Pay What You Can Courtesy of Bronco Wild Fund

While anyone can sign up for the weekend for as little as $50 thanks to Bronco Wild Fund, for this event 5 spots will be allocated specifically to those who meet the criteria for our Pay What You Can Program.

Please do not sign up for the discounted spots if you do not meet the criteria, even if the regular price spots are sold out. If these spots are not filled by March 1st we will open them up for anyone to sign up and direct the additional funds to provide more scholarships on other programs.

If the discounted spots are sold out and you qualify for our Pay What You Can Program you can register for the event by selecting a regular price spot and using the discount code C&C400 at checkout.

What is the Pay What You Can Option?

We want everyone who wants to attend one of our events to have the opportunity to come. Regardless of their financial status. We have decided to provide unlimited scholarships to our core programs to help lower the financial barrier to entry.

We want to make the process simple and trust based. We trust that individuals will be truthful about their financial situations, and will allow this program to serve those who need it.

To qualify we ask that possible participants consider the following and identify with at least two of the following statements:

  • I have accrued credit card debt in order to meet my basic needs.
  • I have found difficulty accessing and affording healthcare for me and/or my family members.
  • My income supports my loved ones, as well as myself and I cannot often do things for myself
  • I am unemployed or underemployed, and it is not by choice.
  • I rarely have expendable income for entertainment, travel, and/or eating out.

And you must confirm that without this scholarship you could not afford to attend.

If a participants identifies with two or more of the above statements they are permitted to utilize one of our scholarships by applying the discount code C&C400 at checkout.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS COME BY THEMSELVES?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

The majority of women come to our retreats alone - somewhere around 90%.  If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a majority of our participants to be joining by themselves, seeking community.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

We generally have a wide range of ages at our retreats. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 28 to 45. But we have had quite a few women in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.

I'VE NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE. CAN I STILL ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

I'VE NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE. CAN I STILL ATTEND?

ABSOLUTELY.  The entire ethos of She Moves Mountains guiding is to remember what it felt like to try climbing for the first time. It's intimidating, but we will be with you ever step of the way.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

I'M AN ADVANCED CLIMBER. WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD CLIMB?

I'VE NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE. CAN I STILL ATTEND?

We have a very strict cancellation policy. Please review it before committing to this retreat.

CAN I BRING MY PET?

I'M AN ADVANCED CLIMBER. WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD CLIMB?

We know you love your fur babies but unfortunately, we cannot allow pets on any of our group trips or clinics.

I'M AN ADVANCED CLIMBER. WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD CLIMB?

I'M AN ADVANCED CLIMBER. WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD CLIMB?

It depends. To be permitted to lead at one of our events you must confirm that you have led at least ten routes outside or have taken a lead climbing class & have led a minimum of 30 climbs indoors. We will also require that you demonstrate your skills by mock leading a route without back clipping, z-clipping, or having the rope behind your ankle.

If you haven't led outside before and would like to work toward this on the retreat we can focus on these skills through a lead simulation but we will not permit new leaders to lead at our Camp & Climb.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR THE WEATHER IS POOR?

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR THE WEATHER IS POOR?

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR THE WEATHER IS POOR?

All of our retreats are rain or snow or smoke or shine. We do our best to choose dates where this won't be an issue, but it's always a possibility. Even more so with the changing climate. If poor weather occurs we will propose alternative activities such as movement skills at the climbing gym, technical skills lessons such as anchor building or multi-pitch clinics, or hiking.

If poor weather will ruin your experience we suggest that you purchase "cancel for any reason" trip protection as we will not be providing any refunds due to weather related issues.

I AM PLUS SIZED. AM I ABLE TO CLIMB?

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR THE WEATHER IS POOR?

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR THE WEATHER IS POOR?

We aren't experts in this area as this is not the lived experience of our current instructor team. But we want you here and we are committed to making your experience a positive one.

If you can:

  • Hike three miles over varied terrain while carrying a 15 lb backpack
  • Do 20 squats
  • Have good balance
  • And maintain a positive attitude

CLIMBING IS FOR YOU!

Currently the most limiting factor is the ability to fit into a harness. We have harnesses that can accommodate up to a 56inch waist. We are looking into getting a fleet of fully adjustable harnesses before next season starts.

If you want to learn more from plus sized climbers I highly recommend looking into Climb Big. Climb Big is an organization with a mission to "Make climbing more accessible for fat folx."
