Clinic Description

Explore new heights (literally!) with our Anchors and Rappelling Clinic—a fan-favorite women's climbing clinic taught by experienced She Moves Mountains guides.

Learn valuable climbing skills and techniques—including rappelling, building sport climbing anchors, and cleaning anchors—all in a fun, supportive, and welcoming environment.

Less about climbing and more about learning useful skills for climbing outside, you'll leave this day-long climbing clinic with the skills necessary for becoming a competent climbing partner in the outdoors.

NOW OFFERING A 2-DAY JOSHUA TREE ANCHORS CLINIC!

Do you want the tools to climb on your own in Joshua Tree? Many routes can be easily accessed from above by scrambling to the top of rock formations, but building anchors can be complex. With a little creativity and advanced anchoring skills, it’s possible to set up hundreds of fun top-ropes of every style.

In this clinic, you’ll learn to build top-rope anchors in Joshua Tree by using a static rope to equalize boulders, bolts, cams, and other natural protection. You’ll learn the basics of placing trad gear to use as components of your anchors. You’ll also learn methods to protect yourself near cliff edges and how to rappel down the top-ropes you build.

What to Expect:

Get ready to make use of anchor boards, which allow us to safely teach you how to build and clean an anchor while on the ground. And, if time permits, you'll also have the opportunity to clean an anchor and rappel under guided supervision.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our next Anchors and Rappelling Clinics!

      FAQs

      1

How many participants come by themselves?

The majority of women come to our clinics alone - somewhere around 95%.  If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a majority of our participants to be joining by themselves, seeking community.

      2

I've never climbed before. Can I still attend?

ABSOLUTELY. This clinic is designed for beginners. The entire ethos of She Moves Mountains guiding is to remember what it felt like to try climbing for the first time. It's intimidating, but we will be with you ever step of the way.

      3

What is the average age of the women who attend?

We generally have a wide range of ages at our retreats. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 26 to 45. But we have had quite a few women in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.
