PORT DE SÓLLER, MALLORCA, SPAIN
May your dreams lead you to the life that makes you happy.
We've got some pretty serious criteria any destination needs to meet before we'll consider hosting a new retreat. First off, is the climbing good - and by good we mean world class? Oh, you mean like dreamy cliffs for days and the best deep-water soloing on the planet? Check. That's a big one, and Mallorca passes with flying colors. Second, is it pretty - like is it really the sort of place you want to go on vacation? Check on that one too. Mallorca is stunningly beautiful, and has the reputation as one of the Mediterranean's absolute must-visit islands. And last but not least, are there beaches and are the food and wine good? Check, check and check? Welcome to the team, Mallorca!
As one of the great climbing capitals of the world, we've long felt like Spain was missing from our roster and we are very excited to finally fix that. Mallorca has so much to offer, and who better to show us around than our very own Daila Ojeda? If you don't know Daila yet, she's one of the strongest women climbers anywhere with plenty of first ascents and 5.14's under her belt, but she also just happens to be Spanish and a local expert, and one of the most caring, kind and amazing people you'll ever meet. All of that to say trust us - this is gonna be fun!
This will be our first retreat to Mallorca and we could not be more excited!!.
No matter what kind of climber you are, if you haven't been climbing in the Mediterranean, you're in for a treat. Each of our destinations is extraordinary in its own way, but sport climbing on limestone tends to be, well - just fun. You know all those enormous, awesome holds in the gym that you love to grab but can't believe are real? Those live in Mallorca.
And while it's a relatively small island, Mallorca boasts a huge amount of diversity, both in terms of landscape and climbing. Sport climbs of all kinds - steep, slabby, juggy, or technical - you'll find them all, and in settings from the mountains to the seaside. Climbing over the sea, of course, is also one of the things that makes Mallorca so special and keeps it at the top of every climber's bucket list.
Deep-water soloing, or "DWS," is a unique style of climbing that's maybe best described as like bouldering over water, where one simply climbs until you reach the top, or you go for a swim. Because it's part of what makes Mallorca Mallorca, we'll be sure to give you the opportunity to get out for a day of DWS so you can see what it's all about.
We'll partner with some local guides for that part of the adventure, and every other day we’ll head out in small groups of up to four or five climbers per guide, and make sure you’re paired with climbers and climbs that match your ability, so you don’t have to worry about being held back or pushed too far.
All of the climbing we'll be doing is single-pitch, and like all of our climbing retreats, this trip is perfect for climbers of all skill levels, and is a great opportunity to learn new skills, push your limits, work on your lead game, or just enjoy the ride.
We’ll be based on the northwest side of the island in the gorgeous seaside town of Port de Sóller, a picturesque harbor surrounded by water, cliffs and mountains. Getting there is an easy hour's train or car ride from the airport in Palma, and with a location central to Mallorca's best crags, it makes a perfect home base for the week. While Mallorca is deservedly famous for its happening beaches and clubs, Port de Sóller is a world apart from the big box holidays and spring break scene of some areas closer to Palma. Instead, it's a quiet, tranquil hamlet with great swimming, fabulous restaurants, and as much nightlife as any climber could want.
The smaller port of Sóller is also connected to the main town of Sóller by a charming tram, which has been running back and forth between the coast and hills for over a hundred years.
We'll be staying at the incredible Hotel Eden, and both private rooms and shared rooms for two are available. The hotel is modern and perfectly situated right on a beautiful beach, and just a few minutes walk from the town's shops and restaurants. Of course the climbing and the sights are fantastic, but it should also come as no surprise that the food and wine are both great too. We'll be sure to give you a taste of it all at our group dinners, and leave you free the rest of the week to explore the bounty of Spanish cuisine, including favorites like paella and tapas, as well as local specialities like coca mallorquina, tumbet, trempó and the dreamiest pastry of all, ensaïmada.

ROOM SELECTION & PRICING:
You get yourself to Port de Sóller and we'll have a room with your name on it at the Hotel Eden. All we ask is that you make it in time to meet your guides for an evening meet and greet and a welcome dinner in town. Your guides will meet you at the hotel to get to know everybody and to chat about the week, then take you out for a fantastic welcome dinner with the group.
We’ll start the day with breakfast before breaking into groups to head out and climb. Each group may head to a different crag, but the aim for everybody will be will be to shake off the jet lag and to get a feel for Mallorca by easing into the climbing, as well as getting through a series of belay checks and tests to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to staying safe throughout the week. As we often have folks who are interested in leading, this will also be a chance to start checking out your skills and clearing you to lead. After a full day of climbing, we'll get you back to town where you'll be on your own to explore and relax for the evening.
We’ll once again start the day with a delicious breakfast before heading out to climb. All of the crags we'll be visiting are single-pitch (as in there is no multipitch climbing on this trip), and are within an hour's drive of Sóller, with a bunch of the best in the island within easy reach. S’Estret, Valldemossa and Sa Gubia, all of which are genuinely incredible, are 20-30 minutes away, and Porto de Sóller even has a crag right in town for those who like the steep stuff. Wherever you go, you'll be able to take it at your own speed, and push as hard or as little as you want. We'll once again get you back to town in the evening where you'll be on your own for the night.
Nobody can really climb for five day in a row, though that never quite stops our guests from trying. To be fair, we love climbing enough that we try it too sometimes, but it doesn't usually work out all that well. Instead, we recommend taking a day to relax and recuperate, and to explore all the other things that make Mallorca so wonderful. Take the tram up to Sóller, get a massage at the spa, or just lay on the beach and relax with a book - this is a vacation after all. And for those who just can't pass up an opportunity to climb - don't worry, our guides will be ready to get out on the rock, just don't say we didn't warn you!
After a day of recharging, we'll be ready to rock again, which is good, because we'll need our arms to stay dry. Not that going swimming is such a bad thing, but either way we'll go try our hand at the deep-water soloing that makes Mallorca famous. If you'd prefer to climb on dry land that option will be available as well, but we'll plan on driving to the southeastern side of the island in the morning to meet up with some local partners who can run us through the procedures for staying safe on the water, and who know exactly where to take us out for the day. Once again we'll get you back to the hotel in the evening and set you loose.
This will be our last day in paradise and we'll try our best to make the most of it. As long as it fits with everyone's goals, we'll often take the last day to climb together as one big group. We try not to bring the party to the crag everyday, but once in a while it's pretty fun. Wherever we go, we'll be sure to tucker ourselves out and try our best to make sure that everyone finishes off the trip by meeting their goals and feeling good. We'll also be sure to have a great last night with a farewell dinner and drinks together.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and you’ll have to go home, or to wherever your next adventure waits.

Daila was born in the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the west coast of North Africa. Daila’s early life was consumed by surfing, but inspired by a climbing competition in her hometown, she started climbing when she was 18.
After climbing for a few years, she decided to leave the island and move to Catalonia, one of the global epicenters for hard sport climbing. It was here that Daila got the opportunity to learn from a number of talented climbers, and she fell in love with the climbing life. Since then she's sent sport routes up to 5.14c/8c+, and travels the world to share her passion for the rock.

AMGA Single Pitch Instructor & Apprentice Rock Guide / Founder of She Moves Mountains
After years of climbing all over the United States and Patagonia, Lizzy started She Moves Mountains as a means to confront the lack of female presence in the climbing and professional guiding world.
Since starting She Moves Mountains' international programs, Lizzy has climbed all over the world, from Thailand to the Alps, and has fallen deeply in love with Mediterranean sport climbing. She is excited to combine her loves for limestone sport climbing and the Spanish language with her passion for helping women grow, learn and discover themselves through climbing.
You don't need to be an expert climber to attend, but we do recommend you at least try it out before signing up to travel halfway around the world for five full days of climbing. As a guideline, we generally recommend that participants are able to top-rope a 5.9 in a climbing gym without taking or falling. We are aware that climbing 5.9 in the gym is much different than climbing a 5.9 on real rock, but having the ability to climb 5.9 inside will set you up to have a great time outside.
We often have a huge range of ability amongst participants on our retreats, and with multiple guides we can accommodate a wide range of skill levels.
About half of our of climbers come to our retreats alone. Often we do have groups of friends who sign up together, and we also have couples pretty often, but we also have a lot of people just come by themselves looking to meet people and make new friends. If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a lot of our participants to be joining by themselves.
We generally have a wide range of ages at our retreats. The average tends to fall between the ages of 30 to 45. But we have had quite a few folks in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.
It depends, but if the trip sells out we'll have fourteen climbers and three guides. That makes this one of our smaller sport climbing trips, and is the perfect size to get to know everybody and get in a ton of climbing.
Late September is a great time to visit Mallorca. The days are mostly sunny with average daily temps of 65-75°F, which makes it perfect for climbing. September is actually prime time for climbers in Mallorca, as it's relatively cool and dry, and the water is warm for DWS, or just for going to the beach for a dip.
We'll get wet! No, but seriously - as the old saying goes, "Everybody's always talking about the weather, but nobody ever does anything about it." As with every vacation in the world, all we can do is plan an amazing trip and hope for the best. It could always happen, but we've never had to cancel a trip because of rain. Weather could always alter our plans and have us scrambling to Plan B, but we'll make do with whatever the skies throw at us.
Fortunately, that's an easy one. The Hotel Eden is less than an hour from Palma (which you'll fly into) and there are a lot of ways to get there. You can take a bus, train or taxi, and those will cost about €15, €20 and €60, respectively. The easiest and most scenic is probably the train, which leaves every half hour from the Estació Intermodal in downtown Palma, and takes about 55 minutes. Or if you really want to see the sights, you can take the historic railway to Sóller, then the tram down to the port. Alternatively, a cab is the fastest and will take about 40 minutes.
Yes we have 2 types of payment options:
Please visit our PAYMENT PLAN page for more information.
We have a very strict cancellation policy. Please review it before committing to this retreat. We HIGHLY recommend purchasing trip protection as we will not modify our cancellation policy under any circumstances.
