We've got some pretty serious criteria any destination needs to meet before we'll consider hosting a new retreat. First off, is the climbing good - and by good we mean world class? Oh, you mean like dreamy cliffs for days and the best deep-water soloing on the planet? Check. That's a big one, and Mallorca passes with flying colors. Second, is it pretty - like is it really the sort of place you want to go on vacation? Check on that one too. Mallorca is stunningly beautiful, and has the reputation as one of the Mediterranean's absolute must-visit islands. And last but not least, are there beaches and are the food and wine good? Check, check and check? Welcome to the team, Mallorca!

As one of the great climbing capitals of the world, we've long felt like Spain was missing from our roster and we are very excited to finally fix that. Mallorca has so much to offer, and who better to show us around than our very own Daila Ojeda? If you don't know Daila yet, she's one of the strongest women climbers anywhere with plenty of first ascents and 5.14's under her belt, but she also just happens to be Spanish and a local expert, and one of the most caring, kind and amazing people you'll ever meet. All of that to say trust us - this is gonna be fun!

Save your spot now, and join She Moves Mountains for some unforgettable climbing in Mallorca! This trip is open to all genders.

Climbing

Mallorca boasts a huge amount of diversity, both in terms of landscape and climbing. Sport climbs of all kinds - steep, slabby, juggy, or technical - you'll find them all, and in settings from the mountains to the seaside.

Climbing over the sea, of course, is also one of the things that makes Mallorca so special and keeps it at the top of every climber's bucket list. Deep-water soloing, or "DWS," is a unique style of climbing that's maybe best described as like bouldering over water, where one simply climbs until you reach the top, or you go for a swim. Because it's part of what makes Mallorca, Mallorca, we'll be sure to give you the opportunity to get out for a day (or two) of DWS so you can see what it's all about.

For our other climbing days we’ll focus on single pitch climbing -- making sure you’re paired with climbers and climbs that match your ability, so you don’t have to worry about being held back or pushed too far.

Accommodations

We’ll be based on the northwest side of the island in the gorgeous seaside town of Port de Sóller, a picturesque harbor surrounded by water, cliffs and mountains. Getting there is an easy hour's train or car ride from the airport in Palma, and with a location central to Mallorca's best crags, it makes a perfect home base for the week.

While Mallorca is deservedly famous for its happening beaches and clubs, Port de Sóller is a world apart from the big box holidays and spring break scene of some areas closer to Palma. Instead, it's a quiet, tranquil hamlet with great swimming, fabulous restaurants, and as much nightlife as any climber could want.

The smaller port of Sóller is also connected to the main town of Sóller by a charming tram, which has been running back and forth between the coast and hills for over a hundred years.

We’ll be staying at Hotel Eden Nord, a simple 3-star hotel in Port de Sóller. The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk from the sea and just a few minutes from the port’s shops, cafés, and restaurants. Guests should expect a cozy, European-style hotel with practical rooms in a great location, rather than a large luxury resort.

Meals

For breakfast, the hotel offers a scrumptious buffet full of Spanish delights from yogurts and local cheeses to breads, eggs, fruits, and more. It also has a pool and full-service bar to help you relax in the evenings as well.

For lunch and snacks, a variety of options are available at the many cafes and markets that line the streets just a short walk from your doorstep.

For dinner, we'll start and end the trip at some of our favorite Spanish cuisine, like paella and tapas, as well as local specialities like coca mallorquina, tumbet, trempó and the dreamiest pastry of all, ensaïmada.

Please note: Our schedule depends entirely on the weather. We may move days around or replace activities entirely if necessary.

Schedule

1

Day 1 | Bienvenida a Mallorca!

You get yourself to Port de Sóller and we'll have a room with your name on it at the Hotel Eden Nord Soller. You’ll be on your own for the evening to explore the beautiful beachside town, where your only job will be to find something tasty for dinner and to try to get some sleep.

2

Day 2 | Climbing Day #1 & Welcome Dinner

Your guides will meet you at the hotel for breakfast, where we’ll spend some time getting to know one another and talking through the week ahead before breaking into climbing groups. The goal for the day is to shake off any jet lag, ease into the climbing, and start getting a feel for Mallorca. We’ll also move through a series of belay checks and skill assessments to make sure everyone is aligned on safety for the week ahead. For those interested in lead climbing, this will also be an opportunity for us to begin evaluating your skills and, if appropriate, clear you to lead. After a full day of climbing, we’ll celebrate our first day together with a welcome dinner in town.

3

Day 3 | Climbing Day #2

On our second day, we plan to head out for one of Mallorca’s most memorable climbing experiences: boat-access deep water soloing with our local partners at Rock & Water Mallorca, who offer DWS outings around the island by boat or on foot. Their team will help guide the day and walk us through the safety procedures for climbing above the water. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, you’re also welcome to choose another day of single-pitch climbing instead. After the day’s adventure, we’ll return to the hotel in the evening with time to relax and enjoy the rest of the night at your own pace. There are no scheduled group activities this night.

4

Day 4 | Rest Day or Climbing Day #3

After two days of climbing, we highly recommend taking the opportunity to slow down, recover, and enjoy more of what makes Mallorca so special. You might take the tram to Sóller, book a massage, spend time at the beach, or simply relax with a good book and a slow morning. For those who are still feeling energized and eager to climb, we’ll offer a climbing option as well. Because weather can sometimes force us to shift the schedule, there’s also a chance we may use this day for climbing if we need to make up time elsewhere in the week.

5

Day 5 | Climbing Day #4

After a little time to rest, we’ll head back out for round two of deep water soloing — because once is rarely enough. We’ll reconnect with our local partners and make our way back to the water for another day of climbing, splashing, cheering each other on, and hopefully sticking a few more moves than last time. If you’d rather keep your feet on dry land, a single-pitch climbing option will be available instead. By evening, we’ll head back to the hotel salty, sun-kissed, and ready for a relaxed night in town.

6

Day 6 | Climbing Day #5

This will be our last day in paradise and we'll try our best to make the most of it. As long as it fits with everyone's goals, we'll often take the last day to climb together as one big group. We try not to bring the party to the crag everyday, but once in a while it's pretty fun. Wherever we go, we'll be sure to tucker ourselves out and try our best to make sure that everyone finishes off the trip by meeting their goals and feeling good. We'll also be sure to have a great last night with a farewell dinner and drinks together.

7

Day 7 | Heading Home

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and you’ll have to go home, or to wherever your next adventure waits.

FAQs

1

Age & Experience Requirements

Age + Experience Requirements
This retreat is open to guests 18 and older.

You do not need to be an advanced climber to join, but this trip is not the best fit as a first-ever climbing experience. To get the most out of the week, we recommend that participants are able to climb at around a 5.9 in the gym on top-rope, or roughly a V2–V3 indoors (depending on the gym).

DWS involves climbing above the water without a rope, so it is not the right setting for learning basic climbing movement for the first time. Guests who would prefer not to participate in DWS may choose a day of single-pitch climbing instead.

Physical Requirements:

  • Hike up to 3 miles over uneven terrain while carrying a 10–15 lb daypack
  • Move comfortably on rocky trails, uneven footing, and short uphill approaches
  • Climb for multiple hours in a day with breaks between routes
  • Perform 20 controlled bodyweight squats
  • Step up onto a knee-high ledge or stair repeatedly with good balance
  • For DWS: swim confidently and feel comfortable with heights/exposure above the water

2

How do I get to Port de Sóller?

Fortunately, that's an easy one. The Hotel Eden is less than an hour from Palma (which you'll fly into) and there are a lot of ways to get there. You can take a bus, train or taxi, and those will cost about €15, €20 and €60, respectively. The easiest and most scenic is probably the train, which leaves every half hour from the Estació Intermodal in downtown Palma, and takes about 55 minutes. Or if you really want to see the sights, you can take the historic railway to Sóller, then the tram down to the port. Alternatively, a cab is the fastest and will take about 40 minutes.

3

How many participants come by themselves?

Many of our guests come to our retreats on their own. While some join with a friend, a big part of what makes these trips so special is that so many women arrive solo and quickly find themselves surrounded by kind, like-minded people. Coming alone is a very normal part of the experience, and for many guests, it ends up being part of the magic — it creates space to connect, build new friendships, and feel part of the group in a really meaningful way. If you’re considering joining solo, please know you would be far from the only one.

4

I'm an advanced climber. Will I be able to lead climb?

Probably. Lead climbing is certainly not a requirement for anybody on the trip, but we're happy to let you lead as long as you have prior experience as a leader and can pass a belay test similar to those found in most gyms (minus the falling).

Our main goal is to keep everyone safe, so on our first day out together we’ll just want to see that everyone is able to manage the rope, communicate, lead and belay safely before being cleared to do it throughout the week. If you don’t plan on leading, we’ll just want to go through a quick belay test to make sure you’re good to go belaying those who are.

For those aspiring to lead, we will try our best to coach you through the process  throughout the week with the aim of you learning to do so safely.

5

What is the average age of climbers who attend?

We generally have a wide range of ages at our retreats. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 26 to 45. But we have had quite a few women in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.

6

How many people will be on the trip?

This trip has a maximum of 16 participants.

7

What if I have dietary restrictions?

The food we'll be eating is, for the most part, traditional Spanish food. We will not be cooking meals for the group, so we only have as much control over what goes into your food as you would going to any restaurant. That said, we've had participants with gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian diets on this trip before and they did just fine.

8

Are payment plans available?

Yes we have two types of payment options. Please visit our Payment Plan page for more information.
