At the Introduction to Backpacking we spend two days and one night in the backcountry learning and practicing the skills needed to plan and execute your own backpacking trip.
We begin our day with a short meeting at the trailhead to distribute gear for the weekend and introductions. Our instructors will discuss essential items to always carry into the backcountry and how to pack your backpack for optimal comfort. With bags loaded, we begin our hike and leave society behind. As we make our way towards camp, you will learn about backcountry etiquette and hygiene on the trail.
Once at camp, you will learn how to pitch a tent, filter water and make a backcountry meal. After making our homes for the evening, the group has the option to hike further without our heavy backs and explore other trails.
In the morning, after waking to birds chirping and the sun illuminating our tents, we eat breakfast, breakdown our homes and clean up our campsite. As we hike out, women will have the chance to reflect on the last 24 hours and ask any lingering questions.
Over the weekend you will learn:

CLINIC DETAILS:
The majority of women come to our retreats alone - somewhere around 90%. If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a majority of our participants to be joining by themselves, seeking community.
We generally have a wide range of ages at our retreats. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 26 to 45. But we have had quite a few women in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.
ABSOLUTELY. We will teach everything from how to pack a backpack to cooking gourmet meals in the back country. However to maintain a positive experience for everyone hikers need to be able to hike four miles with a backpack that weighs 35 pounds over varied terrain.
Working with industry leaders, She Moves Mountains has developed a detailed COVID response plan in line with CDC recommendations. Click here to learn more.
We have a very strict cancellation policy. Please review it before committing to this retreat.
