At the Introduction to Backpacking we spend two days and one night learning and practicing the skills needed to plan and execute your own backpacking trip.
In the morning you'll meet your instructor at the trailhead and receive your gear for the weekend. We'll kick things quickly off with our first lesson: how to efficiently and comfortably pack your backpack.
From the trailhead we'll make our way to camp, where we'll set-up our homes for the night; pitch our tents, filter water and make a backcountry meal. We'll also have the option to hike further without our heavy packs and explore other trails.
In the morning, we'll enjoy breakfast by the river and break down camp. As we hike out, you'll have the chance to reflect on the last 24 hours and ask any lingering questions.

We will host this retreat rain or shine. If the weather is poor we will propose alternative activities such as technical skills lessons (anchor building, self-rescue, multi-pitch) or hiking. If poor weather would make you want to cancel we recommend looking into Cancel For Any Reason.

The majority of women come to our retreats alone - somewhere around 90%. If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a majority of our participants to be joining by themselves, seeking community.
We generally have a wide range of ages at our retreats. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 26 to 45. But we have had quite a few women in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.
ABSOLUTELY. We will teach everything from how to pack a backpack to cooking gourmet meals in the back country. However to maintain a positive experience for everyone hikers need to be able to hike four miles with a backpack that weighs 35 pounds over varied terrain.
People with food allergies are absolutely welcome to join us at our program! We have food options that are vegan, gluten free, lactose free. Of course, if it would make you more comfortable, you are also welcome to pack your own meals.
To make two payments, apply the discount code "deposit" at checkout to make a 50% deposit, which 10% of the total cost of the trip is non-refundable. The full payment is required two months prior to the clinic start date.
We know you love your fur babies but unfortunately, we cannot allow pets on any of our group trips or clinics.
We want everyone who wants to attend one of our events to have the opportunity to come. Regardless of their financial status. We have decided to provide unlimited scholarships to our core programs to help lower the financial barrier to entry.
