CLIMBING AT JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

Guided climbing and instruction are available for climbers of all skill levels, from first-time beginners to intermediate and advanced climbers. All of our guides are AMGA Apprentice Rock Guides or AMGA Single Pitch Instructors and are experts at finding the right climbs for you. In order to make sure everyone gets exactly what they need, we’ll focus on Intro instruction designed for those who have never climbed before, Intermediate instruction for climbers wanting to climb in the 5.5-5.9 range (best for those who have some experience, but perhaps have never climbed outside), and Advanced for climbers wanting to join our guides on more difficult routes.

Climbers will have the opportunity to choose where they climb each day. For our climb and camp weekend we will maintain a 1:5 guide to climber ratio.

CAMPING AT CAMP NYLEN

We will be hosting the retreat at Camp Nylen, a 10-acre, private basecamp near Joshua Tree National Park. All camping equipment, including tents, pads and sleeping bags will be provided so that you can travel light and let us set up for you.* Camp Nylen is surrounded by wide open space, and we’ll have it all to ourselves. Under a large, metal sun shelter mounted on a concrete pad, the campground has two large park-grade picnic tables, a 5,000 gallon water tank, an ADA-sized porta-potty that is serviced weekly, a large propane fire pit, and beautiful rock formations and native flora and fauna all around. The overall feel is your own private National Park in the desert. There is no cell reception or internet access at Camp Nylen. We will have emergency communication capabilities should we need them, but the goal is to disconnect in order to reconnect with ourselves and each other

*Please note that we will take the utmost care in assuring that everything you use is scrupulously cleaned and laundered before you touch it, with COVID-19 protocols and your health as our highest priority. If you would prefer to bring your own camping equipment, you are of course welcome to.

COVID PROTOCOLS

Working with industry leaders, She Moves Mountains has developed a detailed COVID response plan in line with CDC recommendations. We are happy to share details upon request. What this will look like for participants is daily temperature checks, daily covid symptom evaluations, frequent hand washing/sanitizing, and mask wearing anytime we cannot maintain 6 feet of physical distance between each other. Further screening may be required prior to the event as protocols evolve.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS COME BY THEMSELVES?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

The majority of women come to our events alone - somewhere around 90%.  If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a majority of our participants to be joining by themselves, seeking community.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

We generally have a wide range of ages at our events. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 26 to 45. But we have had quite a few women in their 60's join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.

I'VE NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE. CAN I STILL ATTEND?

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHO ATTEND?

I'M AN ADVANCED CLIMBER. WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD CLIMB?

ABSOLUTELY. We will have at least 4 instructors over the weekend so that we can accommodate a wide range of abilities. In fact, teaching people the basics of rock climbing is what we do best. The entire ethos of She Moves Mountains guiding is to remember what it felt like to try climbing for the first time. It's intimidating, but we will be with you ever step of the way.

Due to the high climber to guide ratio (5:1) at this event we will not allow anyone to lead climb over the weekend.
